Is balm or butter better for beard?
Say that 5 times fast lol
It just depends on what your looking for the products to do for you.
Beard Balm is a thicker, stickier consistency and is used for styling a beard and beard butter is less thick and used more for moisturizing the beard.

Beeswax Pellets
This is what is going to help make this beard balm thicker and stickier so that it can help shape the beard.
Beeswax can also help to seal moisture into the beard hair so it can stay hydrated and moisturized.
This ingredient acts as a natural preservative, so the product will last longer than some homemade products, which is a plus!
If you do not have this ingredient you can use candelilla wax or soy wax.
Shea Butter
Shea butter has many nutrients that help with hair growth. Shea butter has anti-inflammatory properties so it is good for your skin and can help soothe skin problems and fight breakouts.
If you do not have shea butter you can substitute it for cocoa butter or mango butter.
Jojoba oil
Jojoba oil is a common ingredient found in skin care and hair products. This oil is full of vitamins and minerals and can help promote hair growth and thickness.
If you do not have jojoba oil you can substitute for argan oil, caster oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, olive oil or grape seed oil
Vitamin E Oil
Vitamin E oil improves dry skin conditions and helps in anti-aging which can even help delay gray patches in your beard.
This oil also increases blood circulation which is good for your beard growth as well.

Essential Oils
These are used to make this balm smell amazing! Not only do the oils make this smell good, but there can also be many benefits to using essential oils on your hair and face alike.
My husband got these manly scented oils off of amazon that he wanted me to try this time for this recipe. I used the leather one and it does smell very good. These are linked above under Woodshop oils.
If you plan on using regular essential oils here are some recommended oils:
Cinnamon bark, clove, eucalyptus, sage, tea tree, thyme, pine, peppermint, vanilla, cedar, sandalwood, lavender, rosemary or citrus scents like lemon, orange.

How make this easy diy beard balm Recipe
In a small bowl combine the beeswax pellets and shea butter. I use the double boiler method with a small saucepan and melt these down until they are a liquid.
Once everything is completely melted, remove from the heat.
Next, add the jojoba oil and vitamin E oil and mix until combined.
Once cooled a little bit, add the essential oils and stir.
Let cool until it is set up. You can put it in the refrigerator to speed up this process. It took about 30 min in the fridge for mine to set up.
Once your balm has set and is hardened take out of the refrigerator and whip it up with your hand mixer. This will keep it from getting too hard in your container and make it creamy texture to go on your beard easily.
Place your new homemade beard balm in a small container or jar and store at room temperature for up to 12 months.
How to use this diy beard care product
You only need to use a small amount of beard balm at a time when styling your beard. Take a little dab on your fingers and rub your hands together and smooth through your beard, a little goes along way! Enjoy the smells of your favorite essential oils while also getting the benefits of all the healthy, basic ingredients that are in this recipe.
Make in larger batches to share with all the bearded men in your life. This is a great gift idea for anyone who wants a healthy beard and also wants to keep it styled and looking sharp! Use different essential oils for different seasons or holidays to change things up!
