This simple DIY clothespin wreath is a beautiful piece of decor on your front door or hanging on your wall! Simple to customize and change for the next holiday or season!
You can find the supplies you need for this pretty wreath at most stores. The Dollar store, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, Amazon or any craft store will have what you need. I got my wreath form and clothespins from Walmart this time.
Here are some links for products similar to the supplies I used for this simple craft.
If you do crafts and project at home often, you probably have most of the supplies already! I already had the spray paint, garland and florals laying around from previous crafts.
This DIY clothespin wreath is a fun project to get your kiddos involved in as well! They will enjoy clipping all of the clothespins to the wire form and even helping you decide what decor to add to it as well.
If you don’t have spray paint you can also use regular paint and a brush. This will definitely be more time consuming, but definitively possible.
You do not have to paint the clothespins at all if you like the bare wood look. This could be cute if you are going for a BOHO style.

*As an Amazon associate I will receive a small commission if you choose to purchase any of these products through my links, but don’t worry, that is no additional cost to you!
How many Clothespins does it take to make a Clothespin wreath
The amount of clothespins will depend on the size of your wire rod.
It will also depend on the way you clip the clothespins to the form. I clip mine on evenly so they all laid flat, but if you want different patterns you can stagger them so some are laying flat and others are standing up a little bit.
If you are using several colors you might want to stagger them for more texture and variety.
I used an 18 inch wreath form and used 108 Clothespins.
How to make your clothespin wreath
- The first step is to clip your clothes pins to the bottom edge of your wire hangers and hang them in a place that you can can use the spray paint with out ruining anything around you. Outside is ideal, but if it is too hot or too cold the paint will not dry correctly. Just make sure to cover the area around you to prevent a mess.
- Spray every side of the close pins. I ended up having to go back after I thought my clothespins were covered enough and paint them one more time because once they were clipped on the wreath I realized you can see all the way up the inside of the pins. Depending on the color you are painting the clothespins, you may want to paint the wire form as well. I painted mine black to match the color of my clothes pins.
- Once your first coat of paint is dry, do another coat to make sure they are covered thoroughly. *Make sure to point your spray paint in towards the end of the close pins.
- Once your paint is dry, clip the clothes pins on to your wire wreath frame one by one. Make sure each painted clothespin is straight and on the form securely.
- Once you have covered the entire wreath form you can begin to decorate your DIY clothes pin wreath.
You can attach your decor by using the clothes pins themselves, zip ties, floral tape, wire or a hot glue gun to glue it in place.
