Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Stand mixer or Hand mixer
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cookie Cutters
  • Parchment Paper
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 2 C. Softened Butter
  • 3 C. Powdered Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 Tsp. Baking Soda
  • 1/2 Tsp. Salt
  • 5 C. All Purpose Flour

Instructions

  • In your stand mixer or a large mixing bowl combine the butter, eggs and powdered sugar.
  • Cream together with the paddle attachment until combined. You can also use a hand mixer if you prefer.
  • In a medium bowl mix together the flour, baking soda and salt.
  • Slowly add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, about 1 cup at a time. The sugar cookie dough will be very thick, So mix on a low speed.
  • Once your ingredients are all mixed together, you are ready to start cutting out your cookies.
  • Grease your baking sheet.
  • Flour your surface so you can work with your dough without it sticking to the countertop. You might want to sprinkle a little bit of flour on top of the dough as well. Roll out with your rolling pin to the thickness you like. I like to make these cookies pretty thick, about 1/2 inch thick.
Using your cookie cutter cut out the cookies and place them on your baking sheet.
  • Place your cookie cut outs and baking sheet in the freezer for about 10 min so the cookies set, this will help keep them from spreading too much.
While your cookie cutouts are in the freezer, preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  • Bake for 7-9 minutes. I like them to be just golden brown on the bottom and pretty light colored on the top, but if you like the cookie to have a little crunch bake longer.
  • Once cookies are done baking, Place on a wire rack to cool.
  • Frost and decorate
